The event began with a short reception in Local Solutions’ new Shopmobility site in St John’s Centre. This was attended by the Lord Mayor, Metro Mayor, key councillors, Local Solutions board members, organisations working to support carers and a group of carers who are supported by Liverpool Carers Centre.
There were short speeches from The Rt. Worshipful The Lord Mayor – Malcolm Kennedy, The Assistant Director of Adult Social Care and Health – Sue Rogers and the Head of the Carers Centre – Hazel Brown as well as a performance from the ‘Sing Me’ choir. Sir Bert Massie, Vice-Chair of Local Solutions and renowned Disability Rights campaigner spoke about the importance of carers to society and about there was a need for “an inclusive policy for carers and people with disabilities.”
After the formal reception, the event continued in Williamson Square where a marquee had been set up and organisations such as Barnardos, The Brain Charity, Healthwatch, Marie Curie, Mencap, PSS, The Reader Organisation and many more were providing information and advice to carers and members of the general public. There were also a number of activities including Zumba, chair yoga, table tennis and hanging basket workshops.
Thank you to everyone who was involved and to all of the organisations who kindly donated amazing prizes for our raffle.
